Job Description:

Responsible for procuring raw materials, components, office and production supplies and sub-contract products and services at appropriate quality, lowest price and within acceptable timeframes. Establishes and maintains beneficial vendor relationships. Organizes and maintains purchasing information- multiple supplier contacts, materials and supply items, bids, quotes and prices. Works with manufacturing to establish and maintain proper inventory/stock levels within normal lead vendor times.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain purchased items inventory levels and order points assisted by Sales and Production management.
  • Forwards available inventory items by verifying stock; scheduling delivery.
  • Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items; obtaining approval from requisitioning department.
  • Obtains purchased items by forwarding orders to suppliers; monitoring and expediting orders.
  • Authorizes payment adjustment for purchases containing variances in price, quantity, terms or fees.
  • Provides purchasing planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Provides custom quotes to Sales as needed.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in applicable educational opportunities.
  • Work on projects to qualify new vendors alongside R&D and Supplier Quality Engineer.
  • Maintains relevant vendor, order management, and pricing data in ERP system.
  • Accomplishes purchasing and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Supply Chain Management

  • Skills: Negotiation, Organization, Customer Service, Expediting, Documentation
  • Process Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Manufacturing Quality
  • Education desired: Four-year degree related to Supply Chain / Vendor Management, APICS certification, America Purchasing Society certification, or 5+ years of relevant related experience.
  • This is a hands-on position within the manufacturing operations group in a small company setting.

Physical Requirements of Job:

Tasks are essentially sedentary, with occasional walking, bending, light lifting, or other restricted physical activities. However, some tasks may require some physical effort, i.e. some standing and walking, or frequent light lifting (5-10 lbs.); or minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of shop or office equipment. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard.
